MAKKINGA MEETS VINCENT HENAR

In dit tweeluik praat Andrew Makkinga met de levende legende Vincent Henar.
Hij is niet alleen een begenadigd bassist en bandleider, maar ook een muzikaal verbinder en leermeester, in het bijzonder binnen de Afro-Caribische muziek. In 2020 was het precies veertig jaar geleden dat hij de toonaangevende jazzformatie Fra Fra Sound oprichtte, maar door corona was er geen ruimte en plek om hier goed bij stil te staan. Gelukkig komt dat feest er nog, inclusief een gloednieuw album, en in twee afleveringen van Makkinga Meets draaien we alvast warm.

He is not only a gifted bass player and band leader, but also a musical connector and teacher, especially within Afro-Caribbean music. In 2020 it was exactly forty years ago that he founded the leading jazz formation Fra Fra Sound, but due to corona there was no room or place to reflect on this. Fortunately, that party is still to come, including a brand new album, and in two episodes of Makkinga Meets we are already warming up.
